Challenge

Established Shopify fashion store with 2 years of traffic that climbed and then flatlined at ~40K sessions / mo. Strong products, but the index was completely bloated. They couldn't understand why smaller competitors ranked better. Wanted an objective external review, not an implementation engagement.

What I did

7-day fixed-scope SEO audit. Full crawl with Screaming Frog + Sitebulb. Competitive comparison in SimilarWeb. GSC analysis - what's indexed, what isn't. Audit of speed, schema, on-page, internal linking. Deliverable: a PDF with 18 issues prioritized, scored for effort vs. impact. 60-min video review walked through everything with their dev team. 30-min day-30 follow-up to validate the implementation.

  • Full crawl with Screaming Frog + Sitebulb, a report on each of 18 technical issues
  • Identified 122K bloat URLs (tags, facet combos, sort variants) with no noindex, no canonical
  • Recommendation: noindex on all filters except the 8 with real demand; canonical on product variants
  • Open-source variant selector instead of separate URLs per color / size
  • Schema audit: Product schema missing on 72% of the catalogue, recommended structure with rating + price + availability
  • 60-min video review with a prioritized 90-day plan, alongside the client's dev team
  • Day-30 follow-up - validated the implementation and fine-tuned the priorities

Results

The dev team implemented 14 of 18 recommendations over the next 90 days. Indexable URLs dropped from 130K to 8.5K. Once Google re-evaluated, Top-3 keywords jumped from 31 to 412. Organic traffic +145% in 6 months. First real visibility movement within 45 days, not after half a year.
