Shopify in Bulgaria: is it worth it

Payments, couriers and the real monthly bill. When Shopify is the right call for a Bulgarian store and when it is not.

Shopify works well for Bulgarian stores, with a few conditions that only become clear after launch. Here is what to know before you pay for a build.

Payments

Shopify Payments is not supported in Bulgaria. That is the first thing that surprises people. You work with an external processor, which means an extra fee and a slightly longer checkout.

In practice most Bulgarian stores rely on cash on delivery, which Shopify does not support natively and which is solved with an app. Budget for it.

Econt and Speedy

Both couriers have apps in the Shopify App Store and they work well: office selection at checkout, label generation, tracking. This is no longer the problem it was a few years ago.

Do check whether the app generates labels automatically for cash-on-delivery orders, because manual entry at 30 orders a day eats hours.

The real monthly bill

  • Shopify subscription: from about €30/month on Basic.
  • Transaction fee with an external processor: typically 1-2% on top.
  • Apps: cash on delivery, couriers, reviews, sometimes languages. Realistically €30-100/month.
  • Theme: a one-off €0-350.

So the real bill is rarely just the subscription. Budget €75 to €175 a month for a working store, before advertising.

How Shopify handles SEO

Good by default and limited in the details. Speed and the technical base are solid, and structured data ships with most themes. The limits are the URL structure, which you cannot change, and faceted navigation, which generates duplicates on a large catalogue.

For a store up to a few thousand products this does not matter. Above that it starts to hurt. Ecommerce SEO

When Shopify is the wrong choice

  • A very large catalogue with non-standard filtering.
  • Non-standard pricing logic or per-customer B2B pricing.
  • Integration with a local ERP or stock system with no ready app.
  • A budget where the monthly subscription is a meaningful burden.

Let's talk

First, let's see if we're a good fit.

A 30-minute call, just me and you. You tell me about your store, your goals, and where you feel stuck. I tell you how I'd approach it. No slides, no pitch. If it feels right on both sides, the next step is a real SEO audit and a plan built around your store.

  • You share, I show you the pathYou tell me about the business - catalogue, goals, numbers, what you've already tried. Inside the call I tell you how I'd scale you: which channels work for your case, which don't, and the order I'd run them in.
  • If it's a fit, I audit your storeIf we both feel good after the call, the next step is a real audit of your store and a plan for the next 90 days. If not, no hard feelings.
  • You always talk to meI work solo - no account managers in between, no junior handovers. Six years on Shopify, WooCommerce and custom ecommerce builds, and the person on the call is the person doing the work afterwards.
